Wednesday April 6 On the Road
We took the expressway (all expressways in Japan are tollways) up the west coast in order to avoid the traffic and the nuclear area on the east coast. All the recent news stories in the Bay Area about the new Caldecott Tunnel seemed silly. We drove through tunnel after tunnel after tunnel, some 4 kilometers long. Drilling through the Oakland Hills would seem like child’s play to these guys. I guess they've been taming the landscape for generations.
The snow covered mountains looking towards Nagano were beautiful. After Niigata, night fell, and we turned east to cross to the east coast.
Midnight—arrived at Morigo Bible camp at Rifu near Sendai, which we share as a base camp with the CRASH relief field team.
